What's on your work desk - Wednesday -179

I returned to work this week, and there sits my project, almost done. Can you see my new Spellbinders Impressionability? It was waiting for me when I arrived home yesterday. This is my first one, I can't wait to put it to work.

Under my card and box I am working on, you can see my mats. If you look closely you can see I have layered them. Last week, I was using my non-stick craft sheet, I was rolling it up when I was done with it.... Every time I used it, It would curl, driving me nuts. So, I decided it would be just as easy to grab it from under my glass plate and the glass plate would keep it flat! Then, I decided that I would put my green mat on top of that, because I can see through my glass plate. Well I don't know if its going to last, but I am giving this a shot.

Oh let me tell you about my glass plate...it served in my kitchen for years. It's really a glass cutting board. I don't think I paid 10.00 for it. When I looked at craft glass mats, I just could not turn loose of the money for one. The cutting board I have has a texture on top of it, which just would not play nicely when I was stamping or cutting. I just turned it over! The legs easily popped off. So if you wished you had a glass cutting mat...try the kitchen area!

Good call on the glass cutting mat! There are lots of things that are cheaper in the kitchen area than the craft area (or the hardware store). Those non-stick craft sheets like Tim sells are also sold in kitchens for the oven. Go figure! Love all the ornate detailing on your box. I'm quite fond of lots of scroll work on projects even if I don't do much of it myself (truly because I never think of it!)

Brilliant idea. I have used my old green mat (was my fabric cutting mat for years) since I began paper crafting. I use the measurements every time I craft. It is getting bumpy from embossing bits, glue that is there now forever and the occasional heat gun mishap! I have my Tim mat taped on top of it but of course I have forgotten that it is a self healing mat several times! I think I might just change to glass from the kitchen! Sandi #37

Hi Robin,

I always like looking for "craft supplies" in different parts of the stores. Your glass mat (er plate) is perfect! Way to think outside the box!!

Seems lots of us excercise the push back technique. Finishing the projects is a good thing though even if you've started a few others in between!! ... Love the butterflies on your box. Thanks for visiting. Tricia #124

Your box is very pretty! All that scroll work is beautiful! Do you cut it on something like a Cricut or using a hand-cranker, like the Big Shot? I always mess it up on the Cricut, is why I ask. But it does really finish a project off so nicely. That is a super tip for the glass cutting board and Princess Judy chimed in with a great one, too, about the baking mats. I left you a comment last week on your craft room post with some suggestions, as you kindly requested. I hope you can use them or feel free to ask any follow up questions. Have a great WOYWW, Deeyll #88

Your card and box are really lovely with all the delicate die cuts. I started out by buying lots of punches, but honestly, I've become converted into a fan of dies. They are often cheaper and they're definitely easier to store. Hope you're having a good week (and thanks for the visit.) ~ Laura #117

I like the idea of using the kitchen mat. My grandpa made my desk so I don't want to stain it with paints :) Love the way your project is looking!

I used my spellbinders and grand calibur. I have a pazzles, which I love, but tend to use punches and dies. I like hands on. Seems I use the Pazzles for vinyl and rhinestones.

Yes I received your awesome comment! You had some great ideas I am mulling around. We are looking for a new home, if I can't get a dedicated craft room, I am definitely going to turn my "station" towards a wall, under a window. Right now, everything I need is right behind me, in the closet, so I don't have to get up. I love having the window to look out of when I craft. Hubby just grins each house we look,at...must have a great craft room...and a three car garage so he can have his "craft" room. At least that's what we look for when we go out....we will see what we end up, with!

Now that idea about the kitchen glass mat is genius Robin! I've got one in there which has the 'feet' thingies falling off all the time. It could do with being replaced but I didn't think that was justifiable - wrong!! Meanwhile your boxed card looks absolutely stunning and I am really envious of your new Impressibility. They are just the best aren't they? Thanks for your visit this week. Hugs, Buttons #96

Hi Robin, I so agree with you regarding the curling craft mat - I just leave mine out all the time and only put the other other mats on top of it when using them. My glass mat was rescued from the kitchen too - I'd say the only downfall with that is that it's not marked out with handy measurements but otherwise it's perfect. Thanks for popping in and visiting - your comment is much appreciated. Elizabeth - later than ever - x #75
