My Craft Room

I believe I started crafting in 2003.  This was the year I broke both my wrists.  A dear friend, invited me to a Stamping Up Class, and I was hooked…

My Craft Room, has been a reorganization journey.  I created this some time ago and posted it somewhere on the web….I of course, can’t find it anywhere now, so decided to blog it, where I can find it again!  Jeepers!  They say, the memory is the first to go…I say, I am in trouble~

So, you lucky dog you, you have an Ikea nearby, huh?! I would be in so much trouble if I had an Ikea nearby! lol It looks like you've done a pretty good job with your room, especially considering the limitation you have that it still has to function as a guest room occasionally. :) So here are some of my initial thoughts or ponderings...Have you heard of a Murphy bed? From the pics it looks like your husband is pretty handy so maybe he could build you one? If you google the term you will find there are Murphy beds that when they are up a table folds down from their underside, so that would be a nice crafting surface or island of sorts for you. 10x11 is a decent sized room...mine is only 7x11, but at least I don't have to put a bed in it...Though I *used* to be able to get a twin sized air mattress into it. ;) If you want a set-up similar to mine or others where they have a wall of supplies used frequently right in front of their workdesk then you could use the closet more efficiently for this. I pinned some pics on my pinterest board(search for Deeyll Wadsworth in people)called Creative Closets. Or you can google the term closet desk for some ideas. If you switch things around like this then you can leave a work-in-progress out, even when you have guests, because it will be safe in the closeted space. And your handy hubby could really come in handy here! He could build a series of shelves, according to your needs, or install a system that allows you to change shelf heights as you wish. If one of your folding tables will fit in the closet then you could use it for the desk surface, otherwise install some 2x4's as a ledge, at your preferred height, and rest a new perfectly sized surface on top which will serve as your new project surface. I think Ikea has lots of desktops, though they may not be the right size for you, but this is an area you can really make personal to suit your crafting needs and decorating preferences...you could have a stained wooden surface(just using a craft mat to protect it when crafting) or you could have a laminated top that most things won't stick to or even a glass top if you wanted. Once you have set up the desk area in the closet and gotten the wall you will face when crafting organized to suit your needs you will find that any leftover stuff previously stored in the closet(which now needs moved as you don't need it at fingertip) can now be organized on shelves or whatnot against the walls of the room itself. This way, when you have to set up the airbed, you don't have to move anything as the center of the room would be uncluttered at all times. Though you could put a nice comfy chair in there so visitors could watch or visit with you while you craft or some guests could have someplace to sit, other than their airbed. If there is room, of course. I think you would find it really convenient to have a wall facing desk so you could get your tools and things most used right in front of you. I imagine the way you have it set up right now leads to a lot of getting up and roaming about to find what you want to use, huh? If I have to get up while crafting I tend to get distracted and forget to go sit back down and finish what I started! lol Anyways, these are my first thoughts and if you want to email me, deeyll@hotmail.com, for more ideas or feedback or whatnot, feel free to. I'd be happy to answer any questions about my ideas or some you might have or help you make out a floorplan so you have an idea what things will look like afterwards, so we can know before all the work if it will be worth it! :)
